To use the Zoom format to its best advantage, the group is divided in two if more than 8 people respond by 11am on the day before the session. Each group is limited to 9 participants, including the host.
As with in-person gatherings, individuals with any level of proficiency in Italian are welcome, as long as they are committed to conversing in Italian.

Join us June 10th at 9AM for a hike in Deception Pass State Park around beautiful Bowman Bay. A discover pass is required. Participants can expect a 4 - 6 mile hike at a speed of roughly 2.5 MPH and will enjoy a forested trail and views of the sound. Bring a pair of water shoes and a towel to enjoy Rosario Beach!
Hike level: EASY but be ready to walk for about 2.5 hours. Shorter route available.
Meet at Bowman Bay Parking lot at 9AM – Discovery pass Required. Please RSVP by June 7.
Potluck: You are invited to a cooks' potluck at Deception Pass State Park. Parking at the Bowman Bay lot (Discover Pass required) between The Civilian Conservation Corps Interpretive Center and the dock. All participants bring a nice dish. Each participant will introduce their dish at the start of the potluck. The potluck rules: Only home-cooked dishes or dishes purchased at a specialty store (bakery, pastry shop, charcuterie shop, butcher, cheese shop). No food purchased from a grocery store, consumer packaged goods, pre-fabricated foods (No Whole Foods, PCC, Trader Joe's, etc.). The 1st Annual Cooks' Potluck was a great success, participants brought thoughtful well-prepared dishes, and a good time was had by all.

Come learn and play the classic and traditional Italian card game, Scopa, meaning "broom"! We'll have Paolo here to teach and lead, several games can be played at one time. Bring card decks if you have them, otherwise we'll have some on hand.
Come partake in this traditional Italian game with us! Free to attend. Grab a coffee or pastry from the caffe and we'll deal you in :) Games in Italian and in English. Per WA State law, no gambling (no prizes nor wagering).
Paolo will be at Casa on Sat June 3 to teach the Scopa game 10am-12pm, in case you wish to jump right in at the playing event!

Location: Soma Yoga & Dance in Ballard (1423 NW 70th Street)
Cost: sliding scale $5-30 per class
Note: The studio requires all participants to have a full dose (usually 2 vaccines) of a COVID vaccine. I will email you after registration with directions to email or text it to me.
In this class, we will explore the traditions and basic movements and songs of the social pizzica pizzica folk dance from Puglia. We’ll investigate:
- The difference between pizzica and various tarantelle, and categories of pizzica and awareness of local distinctions
- The basic steps, movements, and pattern of the dance
- How to use steps and movements in the "conversation" of the dance
- The role of pizzica as a social community dance, both historically and contemporarily after the revival

Take your PLIDA Italian certification exam with Dante Alighieri Society of Washington at Casa Italiana. This exam is also used to obtain Italian citizenship and it is limited to pre-registered candidates, registration due by June 9.
The exam consists of listening, reading, writing, and oral components. For more information on this upcoming exam and how to register, please visit: https://danteseattle.org/italian-language-program/plida/
Since 2021 Casa Italiana has been the host home for the PLIDA – Italian Certification Exam offered by Società Dante Alighieri through the Dante Alighieri Society of Washington. Among other uses, the PLIDA certificate can be used to prove adequate knowledge of the Italian language when applying for Italian Citizenship. Next session is scheduled for Wednesday, June 21.

MALACARNE is proud to present the WORLD PREMIERE of where is home : third shore. Four immigrant solo dancers will guide the audience through Seattle’s Inscape building. These unique tours will integrate the performers’ embodied immigration experiences with the Inscape Building’s history as an Immigration and Naturalization Center. The show is produced by MALACARNE and supported by the Inscape Artist-in-Residence program, Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, 4 Culture, ArtsWA Restart, and ArtsWA Revive.
The immigrant artist team is led by Alice Gosti (Italy), and includes composer Tomo Nakayama (Japan), lighting designer Chih-Hung Shao (Taiwan), costume designer Ophir El-Boher (Israel) and performers Marceline Nyakirindo (Munyamulenge/Democratic Republic of Congo), Sofiya Kostareva (Ukraine & Russia), Margaret Luxamon Hotchkiss (Thailand), and Prasti Purdum (Indonesia).
